Abstract

The Power of Small is an abstract 3D projection that gives us the opportunity to think about how a small thing that we have ignored affects our lives. Inspired by the Butterfly Effect and the Broken Window Theory, The Power of Small communicates how the impact of a small act can have unknown results. It is a series of abstract animations about how a small change makes a big difference. My animations begin with scenes from ordinary, daily life: the small act of tossing a cigarette or carelessly throwing a piece of litter on the street. When these acts are repeated by many, they accumulate into a big problem.Small actions can solve problems or exacerbate problems: in the moment, nobody knows what effect their actions might have. My intention is to bring awareness to these seemingly trivial decisions we make.NAME HERE uses a LCD projector. 3D mapping projection is a new and unique platform that grabs people’s attention and allows me to express and dramatize my ideas in a rich medium. Using the features of a projector, I can control light, shadows, and moving images on a three dimensional object.

CONCEPT-THE POWER OF SMALL

Have you ever experienced that you fell in love with someone because of the first impression that may be small impressions? We know how important the first impression is for building up a mutual and confident relationship with people. The first impression is influenced by not only visible looks but also small senses or behaviors, such as his/her feelings, momentary smile, the moment of eye contact, and even unintended gestures. One of these small behaviors might bring to you true love or terrible relationships.

When we face a small thing in our life, we usually ignore it or even we don't consider it as an important thing because we don't have time to take care of every single tiny thing. What I want to say through the thesis project is that we should thank for the small thing that we have, and believe small things could be the key of fundamental solution or destroy your whole life because nobody knows what the small thing will bring to you or to someone.

According to the book, titled by "The power of small", the authors, named Koval R. and Thaler L. said that it is not easy to take the first step toward changes of life for many people. If you pay attention to carefully the small thing, it is going to be one of the significant links to change your life even though it looks like trivia. Unfortunately, we have listened that we should not waste time for small things, but we need to take care of big things. Therefore, sometimes we have ignored the small power that results in gradual changes and achievement because we believe that we cannot make success with gradual changes. Everyone has focused on and been fussy over big things or successes, but they do not know the small things that we usually have overlooked reasons for success. We need to think that small things are significant and valuable to understand people, circumstances, and phenomenon. For the reasons, the concept of "the power of small things" from the book provides many pleasant precedents of the butterfly effects for proving the reasons why we need to take care of the small things in our lives.

Everyone wants to be successful in life. When we have watched the TV about successful people, there is something in common. It is their first motivation. They said something small or trivial things drove them to be succeed. And also they didn't know that it was the great motivation at that time. Maybe we already had the small or trivial motivation to be succeed in our lives. But we have missed it or we have not realized it yet. I am not talking about just and only the small or trivial thing can drive you to be succeed. However, the small or trivial thing could drive you to start being succeed in your life. We need to pay attention to their story that successful people didn't ignore it, but use it well.
